Pollinator Abundance and Diversity Under Differing Wet Prairie Management

چکیده
Pollinator species have seen recent declines in abundance, generating conservation concern as well alarm about the ecosystem services they provide. A common approach to alleviate pollinator decline is through habitat management, including restoration of degraded habitats and removal invasive species, but apparent improvement does not necessarily mean an abundance diversity. We collected pollinators colored pan traps at three sites Lacamas Prairie Natural Area, Washington: remnant wet prairie, restored area invaded by reed canary grass (Phalaris arundinacea). used model selection assess whether site trap color explained variation richness, was similar native with predicted averages 9.06 (7.15, 11.48) 9.51 (7.52, 12.03), respectively while a heavily had significantly lower 7.26 (5.69, 9.26). Site included top for richness or All measures varied color. Habitat control appear benefited local populations, evidence differences diversity weak. Further work, both characterizing response communities prairie optimizing colors monitoring this area, warranted.

Grazing management effects on plant species diversity in tallgrass prairie
A 6-year study was conducted in tallgrass prairie to assess the effects of grazing management (cattle stocking densities and grazing systems) on plant community composition and diversity. Treatments included sites grazed season-long (May to October) at 3 stocking densities (3.8, 2.8, and 1.8 hectares per animal unit), ungrazed control sites, and sites under a late-season rest rotation grazing s...
متن کاملDiversity and Abundance of Insects in Wukari, Taraba State, Nigeria
A field survey was conducted in Wukari, Taraba State to assess the diversity and abundance of insect species in selected habitats (residential, open field made up of grassland and an agroecosystem). Sampling were done biweekly using light, pitfall and yellow pan traps set in 3 replicates, 30 m apart. Insects recovered were wet preserved in 70% ethanol except butterflies and moths. Representativ...
متن کاملFloral abundance and resource quality influence pollinator choice
1. Pollinator declines caused by forage habitat loss threaten insect pollination services. Pollinating insects depend on adequate floral resources, and their ability to track these resources. Variability of these resources and the effect on insect foraging choice is poorly understood. 2. We record patterns of visitation to six wildflower species and test the hypotheses that: pollinators prefere...
متن کاملPyrodiversity begets plant-pollinator community diversity.
Fire has a major impact on the structure and function of many ecosystems globally. Pyrodiversity, the diversity of fires within a region (where diversity is based on fire characteristics such as extent, severity, and frequency), has been hypothesized to promote biodiversity, but changing climate and land management practices have eroded pyrodiversity. To assess whether changes in pyrodiversity ...
متن کاملFungal diversity in permafrost and tallgrass prairie soils under experimental warming conditions.
Soil fungi play a major role in terrestrial ecosystem functioning through interactions with soil structure, plants, micro- and mesofauna, and nutrient cycling through predation, pathogenesis, mutualistic, and saprotrophic roles. The diversity of soil fungi was assessed by sequencing their 28S rRNA gene in Alaskan permafrost and Oklahoma tallgrass prairie soils at experimental sites where the ef...
